Have you ever had an epic weekend? Like a full on dumpster full of chicken wings soaked in whisky bbq sauce weekend. A big 'ol steak with some lobster mac 'n cheese weekend. Your drink of choice with some ribs and fries weekend. YES. This was me over the holidays. I ate and ate, and ate. I ate cookies and chocolate and peanut butter. I ate like there was no tomorrow.
When it was over, I felt slow. I felt fat. I felt like crap. I told Rachel I wouldn't mind trying the 3 Day Refresh after the holidays were over to quickly shed the holiday bloaty blues. Now if you know my wife, she gets all excited when those little green and white Beachbody boxes come in the mail. I mean like, really excited. Dude, it's just a box. My epic weekend was over, and it was Monday morning...the worst time of the week.
I opened the box and saw all of these little packets of powder. "Aw how cute. Supplements for my food." I thought, foolishly. Little did I know that my battle with the refresh was about to begin. Those little packets were to sustain me for 3 whole days. Say, wha?
Then I had to go through the horror of my before pictures.
Not too bad, right?
So let's get down to my battle with the 3 Day Refresh. If there is one thing that a man doesn't like messed with, it's his food. The contents of the little green and white box would control my life for the next 3 days. So Monday morning everything was going smoothly until about lunch time. I opened my lunch bag, which had been carefully packed by my wife. All that was in there was half of a green pepper, a medium sized apple, and a little bit of almond butter. Oh, and something called Vanilla Fresh Shake (a packet). So I ate all of that stuff and drank my shake, and I was full (to my surprise).
The first bomb didn't really hit me until dinner. I am big on dinner. I usually work very hard all day, and my lunch is on the smaller side. So I usually make my bigger meal dinner. So Monday night's dinner was one little plate of grilled veggies, a cup of broth, and another vanilla fresh shake. I honestly thought I might die. I ate it, and I felt okay. Enough to get me through to day 2.
Tuesday went by without much of a problem. I ate pretty much the same things, except I had this really tasty salad for dinner with this citrus dressing. I survived Tuesday without much of a problem, and I was very busy at work that day which may have helped.
Then Wednesday came. I had had enough. Enough of the stupid little green and white box telling me what to do. Wednesday I learned what self-control really means. In the cafeteria where I work, they had apple pie. I FREAKING LOVE apple pie. But I passed and ate my peppers, apple, and almond butter. Oh! Did I also mention that you have to drink a literal ton of water? Yeah...makes for a social workday with all those trips up and down the hall to the restroom. Anyway, Wednesday nights at church they feed everyone. Last night was no exception. They had soups and sandwiches, which is easy for me to resist. But that dessert table...oh crap. They had apple pie and peanut butter fudge. Rachel even had some of the fudge to rub it in my face. I held my ground. It was the end of day 3 and the battle for my refresh RAGED.
I woke up this morning (Day 4), and I felt honestly tremendous. I felt like superman. Like I could do one of Shaun T's workouts without stopping every couple minutes to breathe.
Whether or not I will do the refresh again remains to be seen. But I can tell you, if you want to get fit or get healthy...it's worth the battle. Yes it's hard, but many things that are worth doing are hard. If you think you're tough enough, I dare you to try the 3 Day Refresh.
