No matter what season we are in, nutrition seems to be the hardest component for most people when working to have a healthy lifestyle that lasts.

The answer is in what we eat.
By 29 years old, I was left an orphan. My mom had passed away of a sudden illness when I was 27, and when I was 29, my dad passed away from pancreatic cancer. As I was cleaning out my dad's house with a toddler and baby underfoot, I vowed that I would do better for my children. Genetics were against me. I HAD to make the changes I could make so that I could be around for them and their children. I was overweight most of my life, and I was tired of carrying around that extra baggage physically and emotionally.
I went back to what I knew: running. I was never a good runner, but I figured if I ran 3 miles, 3 times per week, I'd lose the weight for good. Wrong. I ran and ran and six months later, zero change on the scale. Could it be because I was still eating Dairy Queen and Taco Bell on the regular? Hmm...
So, I changed my goal. Instead of running to lose weight, maybe I could train for my bucket list goal of a half marathon. And I did. That spring I completed that goal... still overweight. That summer, I reflected back to that entire year of running and realized it wasn't exercise I needed, I needed to change what I ate.
